Nonprofit organizations have natural life cycles. Proactively navigating these transitions is critical to fulfilling the promise of your mission.

Negotiation

  • After completing a Readiness Assessment, decision-makers can formally agree to negotiate terms. With clarity on each others’ strengths and a shared desire to re-envision their approach to collaboration, the participating organizations form a joint committee to further solidify the opportunities for learning and negotiate the terms of the affiliation. In early stage negotiations, participants generally operate under strict confidentiality agreements.

  • Every project is unique. Deliverables can include:

    • Seat and facilitate the convening of a joint Negotiations Committee with representation from each organization to oversee and inform the negotiations process. Smaller focus groups or sub-committees can be appointed as needed.

    • Engage leadership, staff, board, volunteers, and those most impacted by the partnership or affiliation to develop a shared purpose, vision, and values for the joint venture.

    • In facilitated committee sessions, methodically address each area of work including finance, operations, HR, staffing, leadership, partnerships, evaluation, and programming to determine how each will function under the restructured entity.

    • Agreements will be documented and presented to the participating organization’s boards and leadership to vote on a resolution to formally pursue the legal and financial arrangements of the affiliation.

  • $14,000-$40,000

*Note: Although many aspects of the initial negotiations can be handled with skillful facilitation and dialogue, experts (legal, accounting, PR, HR) may be brought in during this phase to address special needs such as licensing and certifications, federal or other grant obligations, pre-existing contracts and MOUs, or other extenuating circumstances.
